POC Fornix Mips POW JJ – Freeride helmet for serious terrain
This helmet is not named after Jeremy Jones. It was developed with him – by someone who knows what a crash in the backcountry means and why it's worth getting through it well. The POC Fornix Mips POW JJ is a freeride helmet for skiers and snowboarders who venture off groomed slopes – where crashes look different than on the red route.
Mips – what it does and why it matters off-piste
The Mips rotational impact protection system (Multi-directional Impact Protection System) reduces shear forces during oblique impacts – the most common type of fall in open terrain. The internal system allows for minimal, controlled rotational movement of the head, thereby redirecting energy before it reaches the brain.
No helmet prevents every injury. However, Mips changes the physics in precisely those moments that occur most frequently in the backcountry.
Revised interior: Fit that lasts over four hours
The updated 360° adjustment system with a finely adjustable headband allows for individual fit customization that remains stable even under changing conditions. Thick padding along the helmet edge and crown ensures a soft, pressure-free wearing experience – even after a long day in the high mountains.
The Fornix Mips POW JJ can be worn with or without ear pads. In cold and windy conditions, the soft, flexible pads keep ears and temples warm without compromising wearing comfort or hearing.
Construction details that matter off-piste
Aramid bridges– Integrated reinforcements increase penetration protection for use in wooded and rocky terrain. A detail that is not necessary in any piste helmet – and justifies its price in the backcountry.
Adjustable ventilation– Adjust the temperature in the helmet when the weather changes. In the high mountains, this happens quickly.
Goggle clip– The goggle remains fixed to the helmet, even after hard landings.
Chin strap with cycling adjusters– Finer adjustment than standard systems, can also be operated with gloves.
Jeremy Jones × Protect Our Winters
Jeremy Jones is one of the most famous and influential freeriders of his generation. He co-founded Protect Our Winters (POW) – the organization that represents alpine communities in the climate debate and involves athletes in concrete climate policy work.
10% of the sales proceeds of this helmet go directly to POW. Not a symbolic amount, but an ongoing contribution.
Who is the Fornix Mips POW JJ for?
For freeride skiers and snowboarders who regularly venture off-piste. For anyone for whom protection is not a compromise. And for those who care about who is behind a product and what they stand for.
